Thank You! 1

Pretending, as if all is okay,
Hiding anxiety; Enduring the inconveniences,
We live in the COVID pandemic day by day.
But yet—think about it twice,
There are still many things to thankful for.
Today too, I live in gratitude.
I thank my two eyes
For seeing the splendid orange sun
Wriggling out
From the eastern horizon this morning.
I thank my heart, lungs, and stomach
And all my organs and cells
Concealed beneath my flesh
For running, breathing, digesting—
All the other services, unaware and unseen,
Yet keeping me alive now.
I thank the young families of my children
For busying themselves in their bright world
And returning to their nests at the end of the day.
I sincerely thank myself too
For being able to write this poem, “Thank You!”
And last but not least,
I thank certain aged hands
For rowing the same lifeboat with me
Rain or shine, high and low
All along, for the last 50 years.
