“Our Stories of Home – Past and Present” – A Community Engaged Public Art Project for Arabic and Farsi Speakers with JEAN BRADBURY - Richmond Multicultural Community Services (rmcs.bc.ca)

WHAT – A series of FREE art workshops. Jean Bradbury will lead workshop participants in creating simple comic book style drawings, combining embroidery, painting, and drawing. Participants will be invited to share their stories of home, culture, and community.

WHO – Newcomers to Richmond from Arabic and Farsi-speaking countries. All ages welcome. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

WHY- When you moved to Canada you left behind memories – some good and some bad. Art can help you to process these. It can also help you to pass along these stories to your families and to your new community so that they better understand your experience and who you are. And we will have fun learning to draw!

WHERE – The workshops will take place outdoors at Brighouse Park or Minoru Park in small groups. A COVID safety plan will be in place to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, and staff.

WHEN – Saturday mornings 10:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m. Beginning August 7, 2021, to October 16, 2021  [a total of 11 workshops]

What do you miss from your old home? What do you love about your new home? This project invites participants to share their stories in a series of art workshops. You will learn to draw using a simple graphic novel format. NO ART EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Language translators will be present during the workshops. Depending on your interests we may turn your drawings into embroideries, comic books, or a community mural. Let’s talk!
